Dr. Serge Voronoff used Monkey Glands as the Fountain of Youth

Do you know there’s a way to reverse aging? Or the fountain youth? And live longer? It’s not Plexaderm. It’s Monkey Glands! You have heard it right. Dr. Serge Voronoff, the operation was once seen as an elixir of eternal you and sexual prowess. Or did he create a version of the Planet of the Apes or vice versa?

Dr. Serge Voronoff, the physician, who emigrated to France at 18, was born in Russia in 1866 and acquired French citizenship in 1895. While there, he trained with Alexis Carrel, a pioneer in transplant and surgery who received the Nobel Prize for his work on blood artery repair. Through his research with Carrel, Voronoff developed a fascination for the potential of animal-to-human transplants, which he thought might rejuvenate the body and even treat ailments by transferring hormones.

Voronoff returned to France to pursue his studies in 1910 after spending 14 years working and researching at an Egyptian hospital. He returned to working with animals, performing interspecies organ, tissue, and bone transplants while working with the Collège de France. His efforts to rehabilitate beasts of burden like horses and lambs by implanting testicular tissue from younger animals into older ones helped him establish his reputation.
