An eyewitness saw a UFO

If you are a fan of Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries,” one of the episodes focuses on Michigan UFO activities that happened in 1994, this event still haunts witnesses.

More than 300 reports from Lake Michigan residents reporting strange lights and objects in the sky inundated 911 dispatch that day. Cindy Pravda, a resident of Grand Haven, recalled the incident in great detail to the Free Press in 2019. Four lights in the sky seemed to be “full moons” over the row of trees beyond her horse paddock. She still resides in the same home and keeps bringing up that evening.

Cindy Pravda is known as the UFO lady in Grand Haven.

One of the most significant UFO encounters in American history. It is still one of the biggest riddles. The National Weather Service and the police were both involved.

“And they observed several objects, or huge objects flying around on their radar,” Bill Konkolesky, Michigan director of the Mutual UFO Network, told the Free Press last year. “And their radar isn’t meant to pick up aircraft. It’s meant to pick up weather patterns. So, when they see these thumbnail-sized things on their radar, they know they’re massive.”

“There were three and sometimes four blips, and they weren’t planes,” the NWS radar operator said. “Planes show as pinpoints on the scope. These were the size of half a thumbnail. They ranged from 5 to 12,000 feet, moving all over the place. Three were moving toward Chicago. I never saw anything like it before, not even when I’m doing severe weather.”

That fateful day in 1994 isn’t Michigan’s only unsolved UFO mystery — the state has reported 3,485 sightings, according to the National UFO Reporting Center Online Database.
