UFO in Turkey
According to nst.com.my, at least 18 flights were halted for 12 hours following the alleged detection of an unidentified flying object (UFO) by a passenger aircraft radar in southeast Turkey on Saturday.
According to the police, a commercial aircraft that landed at the airport around midnight claimed it had seen an unusual object on its radar while flying above Gaziantep at 2,743.2 meters (9,000 feet).
The pilot informed air traffic control officials and instructed them to divert all scheduled aircraft to airports in Adana and Sanliurfa.
Air traffic controllers also confirmed the unidentified item, according to the Turkish news website Habertürk.
According to the report, 26 flights from Gaziantep Airport were canceled due to the event, 13 of which were arrivals and 13 of which were departures.
A NOTAM (Notice to Airman) was not sent regarding the event, according to information received from Gaziantep Airport State Airports Authority (DHMI), it was stated.
A NOTAM is a notification sent to aviation authorities to inform pilots of potential dangers on a flight path or in a specific area that might impact the flight.
According to the report, flights at Gaziantep Airport resumed twelve hours later.
