Haunted Kennedy Mine and Argonaut Mine
Kennedy Mine, discovered in 1856, and Argonaut Mine, discovered in 1850, significantly impacted California’s economic growth by producing $105,268,760 in gold. The deepest vertical shaft in the United States is at Kennedy Mine, which is 5,912 feet deep. The Mother Lode’s most terrible mining catastrophe occurred at The Argonaut on August 27, 1922, when 48 workers were stranded in a fire at the 3,500-foot level. Each mine shut down in 1942.
The Kennedy and Argonaut mines are the subject of a TAPS investigation in California’s Gold Country. The team, joined by paranormal explorer Dakota Laden and the “Destination Fear” crew, encounters terrifying phenomena still present on these estates from decades ago, just after the 100th anniversary of the state’s most significant mining tragedy.
As part of the gold belt known as the Mother Lode in western Amador County, the Argonaut Mine is one-mile northwest of Jackson, California.
