Haunted Campsites
When your campground is rumored to be haunted, an overnight stay outside can take on new meanings. Campers have reported everything from ghostly wailing to levitating apparitions at other campgrounds, so bring extra lantern batteries and maybe put off unpacking the car until the first day of your stay.
Big Moose Lake In New York
Some haunted locations have been designated because of a sad event that occurred there. While no evidence has been found, many of these locations have an eerie or negative vibe that people can pick up on rather than anything paranormal. Many would argue that there’s much more going on at Big Moose Lake than just a weird sensation from knowing a tragic murder occurred there.
Grace Brown, who was only 18 years old, discovered she was pregnant by her boyfriend at the time, Chester Gillette, in 1906. Being unmarried and pregnant at the time would have rendered her a social outcast, so she begged Gillette to marry her. According to Outside, when Gillette suggested taking a trip upstate, Brown was convinced that he would ask for her hand in marriage; instead, he knocked her unconscious with a tennis racket, causing her to fall overboard and drown in Big Moose Lake.
Despite Gillette’s arrest and sentence to death, it is said that the spirit of Brown still rests around the lake.
