Imagine waking up every morning convinced it’s the same date, with your memories resetting every two hours. This is the reality for 16-year-old Riley Horner from Illinois, whose life took an unexpected turn on June 11, 2019.
The Unforeseen Accident
On that day, Riley attended a dance at the Future Farmers of America State Convention. Amidst the festivities, a fellow attendee accidentally kicked her in the head while crowd-surfing. Never go crowd-surfing. Initially diagnosed with a mild concussion, Riley was sent home with crutches. However, her condition soon worsened, leading to multiple seizures and a perplexing memory issue.
A Perpetual June 11
Since the incident, Riley’s memory has been reset every two hours, causing her to believe each day is June 11. The day of the dance. She relies on notes and photos to navigate daily life, often feeling disoriented upon realizing the actual date. “I have a calendar on my door, and I look, and it’s September, and I’m like, ‘Woah,’” Riley shared.
