Candy Corn Tastes like a bug’s Secretions.
One of my favorite candies as a teenager in the 1980s during Halloween was candy corn. The short triangle orange, yellow and white candy with the flavor that tasted so good. It melted in my mouth. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but my mom made curry — sorry, candy corn.
Ingredients in candy corn include sugar, corn syrup, and artificial flavors — things we expect to find. However, did you know that it also has bug secretions? Ewe gross. Lac-resin is used to create the candy corn’s shiny outside covering. An insect secretion from lac bugs is called lac-resin (but not the actual bug itself). These red parasites exude resin to defend themselves, which gives candy corn its lustrous appearance. Most likely, it is listed on the ingredient list as “confectioners glaze.”
And I was eating bugs’ secretions! So, I wondered if it tasted like sweet vanilla and honey flavored.
There are classic tastes, like Caramel Apple Corn, Harvest Corn, and S’mores Candy Corn. However, if you want to step it up a notch, there are also some incredibly unique flavors, like Thanksgiving Dinner Candy Corn or Brach’s Tailgate Candy Corn.
