Huang Yanqiu took a ride with the aliens who abducted him

China was comparatively late to the UFO craze, even when old tales that contemporary enthusiasts have categorized as alien encounters are considered. I’ve never heard of Beijingers being chased by dodgy men in black in the 1960s or traveling around with kind Space Brothers in the 1950s. There was also no Kenneth Arnold in China. China’s interest in UFOs may have begun in the late 1970s when the country abandoned Maoism and became more receptive to American ideas. China’s “UFO fever” started in the years 1977 and 1980, according to paranormal researcher Paul Dong, when the nation established study groups, examined sightings and tracked UFO cases in prominent media.

The mysterious case of Huang Yanqiu, a farmer in a village in Hebei Province, appears to be one of the first reports of abduction from modern China. Huang, a 21-year-old guy who was set to get married, disappeared from his village on July 27, 1977, leaving a trail of unresolved issues in his wake. A telegram informing the neighboring village that Huang was being detained by the authorities in Shanghai was received in the morning; this was an impossibility for a guy without access to transportation. Although the closest express train was in Handan, more than 27 miles from Huang’s hometown, he had managed to go 700 kilometers.
