A Seamstress Who Never Sleeps
A woman in the middle of Vietnam’s Long An province was named “the sleepless mutant.” A tailor named Nguyen Ngoc My Kim, who is 49 years old, says she has not slept for thirty years.
Kim is known around town as “the seamstress who never sleeps,” she loves this name because it fits her unique way of life.
If the media is interested in Kim, she always says that she hasn’t slept in decades and that her health hasn’t changed. She makes it clear, though, that this wasn’t always the case; she slowly lost the ability to sleep.
Did she lose her ability to sleep? Everybody needs to rest or sleep somehow.
Kim has had trouble sleeping since childhood, and her love of late-night reading worsened it. When she got older and started seam worrying, her nights were filled with work, and she had to skip sleep to get it done on time.
This is strange?
Over time, her body got used to this crazy routine, and sleep stopped being a luxury. Kim said, “Every night I sat in front of my sewing machine, afraid to sleep because I couldn’t afford to get behind on orders.”
